Bespoke joinery is the work that does not fit under any other heading. The bookcase for a wall that is not quite straight. The storage that follows the slope of the stairs. The seat under the deep window in an old farmhouse. The eaves in the attic that everyone else has written off. Jobs where a standard unit will never fit and a fitted one, drawn for that exact spot, will.
It is the same approach we bring to a kitchen. Marius measures the space himself, draws a piece that suits it, cuts it to size, has it painted in the colour you choose, and fits it himself. After 20 years at the bench, the last seven across West Cork, a wall that leans or a ceiling that dips is not a surprise. It is measured, and the piece is scribed to it.
Most of this work is in older houses, but not all of it. New houses and extensions have their own odd corners, and open-plan rooms often need a piece of joinery to give them a shape. If it is fixed to the house and made of timber or painted board, it is probably something we can help with.

Under-stairs storage
Pull-out drawers that follow the slope, a run of cupboards with doors sized to each step, or a small desk or coat space in the tallest part. Uses the full depth under the stairs instead of the front foot of it. Painted to match the hall or the stair panelling.
Staircases and stair panelling
A new staircase for an extension or a replacement for one that has had its day, and panelling for the hall and stairwell around it. Tongue and groove, flat panel or shaker-style, painted to suit the hall. Cut to follow the pitch of the stairs so every panel lines up.
Eaves and attic storage
Storage cut into the eaves of an attic room or a dormer, with doors that follow the slope of the roof. Wardrobes, drawers and shelving where the head room is low, so the usable part of the room stays clear. Every angle is measured on site, because no two roofs are the same.
Radiator covers
A painted cover cut to your radiator and your skirting, with a grille that lets the heat out and a top that gives you a shelf. Sized so it can be lifted off. Made to match the panelling, the bookcase or the alcove units in the same room.
Alcove units and bookcases
Floor-to-ceiling bookcases scribed to the wall and the ceiling, alcove shelving either side of a chimney breast, or a wall of shelves in a study or landing. Fixed or adjustable shelves, painted or timber, with cupboards below if you want them.
Window seats
A seat cut into a deep window reveal or a bay, with lift-up or drawer storage underneath. Old West Cork houses have thick walls and deep windows that were made for this. Painted to match the room, with a top ready for a cushion.

Marius comes to the house, looks at the space and measures it, including the parts that are not square. You tell him what the piece has to do. He brings colour samples and door and panel styles so you can see them against the room they will sit in.
A drawing and an itemised quote
You get a drawing of the piece as it will sit in your room, with a written, itemised quote and a clear timeline. On the one-off jobs this matters more than usual, because there is no standard to compare against. Nothing is ordered until you are happy with it.
Cut to fit and painted
The joinery is cut to size for the space, allowing for the slope of a ceiling, the lean of a wall or the pitch of a stair, and painted in the colour you chose. Timber tops and seats are cut and fitted by Marius.
Fitted by Marius
The piece is fitted, scribed to the walls, floor and ceiling, and finished on site. Marius fits every job himself, so the person who measured the awkward corner is the one making sure the door closes and the shelf sits level in it.

The pieces on this page are the ones we do most: under-stairs storage, radiator covers, bookcases, window seats, eaves storage, stair panelling. If your job is one of those, or close to it, call and describe it. Marius will tell you straight whether it is something he can do well.
Can you fit storage into the eaves of an attic room?
Yes. Eaves storage is measured on site, angle by angle, and cut to follow the slope of the roof. Doors, drawers or open shelving can all go where the head room is too low to stand. It uses the part of the room nothing else can, and leaves the middle clear.
Can the joinery match my kitchen or wardrobes?
It can. If we fitted them, the colour and door style are already to hand. If someone else did, bring a door or a sample and Marius will match the colour as closely as the finish allows. Bookcases, radiator covers and panelling in one room usually look best in one colour.
Do you fit staircases?
Yes. New staircases and stair panelling are part of what we do, along with the under-stairs storage that goes with them. Marius measures the opening and the floor heights himself and talks you through the options at the consultation.
What does bespoke joinery cost?
Every piece is quoted on its own after a free consultation, because a radiator cover and a staircase are very different jobs. You get a written, itemised quote and a clear timeline before anything is ordered. The consultation costs nothing.
