Kitchen Hero in Rosscarbery

Old walls, small rooms, a kitchen that fits anyway.

Rosscarbery is a village of older houses. Around the square and down towards the water there are cottages and period homes with solid walls, low ceilings and rooms laid out long before anyone thought of an island. Newer houses sit on the edges of the village and along the roads to the beaches, many still with the kitchen that came with them.

We cover Rosscarbery from our workshop in Skibbereen. Marius comes out to measure the room himself, brings samples, and designs a kitchen for that room rather than a catalogue version of it. Then he cuts it to size, paints it in the colour you choose, and fits it. The person who drew it is the person on the floor with the level.

Rosscarbery homes

Cottages, period houses and the newer roads out.

What tends to suit the houses in and around the village.

Cottages and period houses near the square

Thick walls, deep reveals and a ceiling height that changes from one end of the room to the other. Nothing off the shelf sits right here. A kitchen measured for the room can run into the reveal, take the height it is given, and leave the character of the house alone.

Newer houses towards the coast

The houses along the roads to the beaches often have a good open-plan kitchen and dining space, fitted with a standard kitchen when the house was new. When it starts to tire, the layout is usually worth keeping and the units worth replacing with something planned for how you live.

Holiday homes and second houses

A good few houses around Rosscarbery are lived in for part of the year. Owners want a kitchen that is easy to keep, looks welcoming the moment they arrive, and does not date. If you are doing up a house here while living elsewhere, call Marius and talk through how it might work.

Do you cover Rosscarbery?

Yes. Rosscarbery, the roads out to the beaches and the townlands around the village are all within the area we work in from Skibbereen. Marius comes to you for the consultation, and when the kitchen is ready he is the one who fits it.

My cottage has low ceilings. Can you still fit a proper kitchen?

Yes. Low ceilings, uneven floors and thick walls are the norm in older West Cork houses. Marius measures every wall and cuts the units to the room as it is, so tall presses stop where the ceiling stops and nothing has to be forced.

What does the free consultation involve?

Marius calls to the house, measures the room himself and brings samples of doors and colours. You talk through what you want and what the room will allow. He tells you honestly what he thinks, including whether a repaint or new doors would do, and follows up with a written, itemised quote and a clear timeline.

Can I see the work somewhere first?

You can look at our work on this site, and you are welcome to visit the workshop in Skibbereen by appointment to see finishes and work in progress. Samples come to the consultation, so you can hold them against your own walls.

I am delighted with my kitchen. Marius took the small space I had, and rearranged the design of the kitchen to fit the space. It is now a refreshing and contemporary space with tons of storage. His attention to detail is exceptional. 100% recommend.

I needed a press built in where a fridge used to be and it had to look like the rest of the kitchen presses. Marius was so exact and his attention to detail is fantastic. Highly recommend him.

Placed a tricky ‘under-the-stairs’ cupboard with an eye for detail. Great result, we are so happy with it and the loads of storage! Neat on the job, flexible, excellent communication and Marius of ‘Kitchen Hero’ was only happy when the fit and finish were perfect 😃

Marius was a pleasure to deal with, from design ideas all the way up to construction and fitting. He gave us loads of extras, went through all the options and tailored our kitchen to our budget. The quality of his workmanship and his products are out of this world! He lives up to his name as the kitchen hero. Along with all the traditional carpentry/joinery skills he looked after the plumbing and working for the relocation of sinks, switches etc etc. thanks again for making our house a home!
