Kitchen Hero in Bantry

Tall rooms, thick walls and a lot of weather.

Bantry has some of the tallest rooms in West Cork and some of the thickest walls. The period houses in the town have high ceilings and deep reveals, and the kitchen is often in what used to be a back room. Out along the bay, houses face the weather head on. Both call for a kitchen measured and cut to the room rather than one that arrives in standard widths.

We work in Bantry from Skibbereen. Marius comes to your home for a free consultation, measures the room himself, brings samples, and designs the kitchen around what he found. It’s cut to size and painted in the colour you choose, and he fits it himself. Wardrobes, media walls and utility rooms follow the same way.

Bantry homes

Period townhouse, bay cottage or estate house.

The three kinds of house we hear about most from Bantry, and what suits them.

Period houses in the town

High ceilings and tall sash windows. A standard-height kitchen looks lost in a room like this. Taller wall units, a run that goes to the cornice where it can, and a painted finish in a colour with some depth all help the kitchen belong to the house. Deep reveals become shelves or a seat.

Houses along the bay and out the peninsulas

Cottages and newer houses towards Glengarriff, Durrus and the Sheep’s Head. Wind and damp are part of life, so we talk through finishes and hardware that stand up to it at the consultation. Many are second homes, and the kitchen is often paired with fitted wardrobes so the house is ready for guests.

Estate houses from the seventies on

Solid houses with kitchens that were standard for the year they went in and now feel small. Sometimes new doors and a repaint is the honest answer. Often the win is opening the layout up, adding a utility next door and getting the storage right. We’ll say which we think it is.

Do you cover Bantry and the bay?

Yes. We work in Bantry town, along the bay to Glengarriff, out to Durrus and the Sheep’s Head, and across to Kealkill and Drimoleague. Our workshop is in Skibbereen and West Cork is where we work.

What happens at the free consultation?

Marius comes to your house, looks at the room and how you live in it, measures it himself and brings finish samples. He designs around what he measured and you get a written, itemised quote with a clear timeline. There’s no obligation and no hard sell.

Can a modern kitchen suit a period house in Bantry?

Yes, if it’s designed for the room. Proportions matter more than style. Tall units to suit tall ceilings, a painted finish, and detail that echoes the house rather than fights it. Cut to the room, it looks like it was always meant to be there.

What about a house that’s used mainly in summer?

We’re happy to look at second homes around Bantry Bay. If you’re not here full time, call Marius and talk through how it might work around your visits. It’s easier to sort in a conversation than to promise on a page.

I am delighted with my kitchen. Marius took the small space I had, and rearranged the design of the kitchen to fit the space. It is now a refreshing and contemporary space with tons of storage. His attention to detail is exceptional. 100% recommend.

I needed a press built in where a fridge used to be and it had to look like the rest of the kitchen presses. Marius was so exact and his attention to detail is fantastic. Highly recommend him.

Placed a tricky ‘under-the-stairs’ cupboard with an eye for detail. Great result, we are so happy with it and the loads of storage! Neat on the job, flexible, excellent communication and Marius of ‘Kitchen Hero’ was only happy when the fit and finish were perfect 😃

Marius was a pleasure to deal with, from design ideas all the way up to construction and fitting. He gave us loads of extras, went through all the options and tailored our kitchen to our budget. The quality of his workmanship and his products are out of this world! He lives up to his name as the kitchen hero. Along with all the traditional carpentry/joinery skills he looked after the plumbing and working for the relocation of sinks, switches etc etc. thanks again for making our house a home!
